When it comes to maintaining your horse’s overall health, sarcoids can become very alarming for every owner. A sarcoid is a common equid tumor that can occur in multiple forms. There is currently no confirmed mode of transmission among sarcoids but evidence has shown that although these tumors do not spread throughout the body, they can grow larger or multiply locally if not treated. Many treatments are available to horse owners or veterinarians, yet some are more effective than others.
We recommend Xxterra® Herbal Paste for Immune Stimulation which alters the antigenicity of a sarcoid to stimulate the host’s immune system and result in an immune rejection reaction of the sarcoid. Xxterra® Herbal Paste is also an immunotherapy: this type of treatment suggests that the local immune system will be stimulated to reduce tumor cells and virus. Xxterra® is an herbal formulation of bloodroot powder and zinc chloride solution, combined and stirred into a smooth red/brown paste.
Bloodroot is harvested in the eastern parts of the United States where it was used among American Indian tribes in the treatment of skin conditions. The root became popularized in the 19thcentury as a medicinal tropical treatment for skin cancers, polyps, and warts.
Bloodroot contains sanguinarine, chelarathrine and protopine, all of which are alkaloids. Such alkaloids arewell-known as potent chemotherapeutic agents. The most common alkaloid, Sanguinarine, in bloodroot targets only cancer cells when used as a topical treatment and therefore will allow the sarcoid to heal without major complications to the natural skin barrier.
Zinc plays an important role in the proper functioning of the immune system. Zinc is required for the enzyme activities necessary for cell division, cell growth, and wound healing as well as the release of vitamin A from the liver.
Zinc chloride promotes inflammation of the sarcoids surface and, with the alkaloids, alters the sarcoid cells so they become antigenic to the host. Less than 20% of sarcoids may return within 60 days after removal, but a second treatment with Xxterra® is usually effective. The less than 2% which return a third time recur following a final treatment.
One controlled study has been carried out investigating bloodroot’s efficacy for the treatment of 15 sarcoids with Xxterra® reporting a 93% success rate that responded with size reduction, total regression, and with minimal side effects.
Treatment with Xxterra® is quick and easy. The paste can be applied to the sarcoid and surrounding tissue every day for 5-7 days. The immune system will take over and begin to reject the cancerous cells and the sarcoid will fall off. The tissue will begin to heal and total recovery is typically seen in 20-30 days, often times leaving no scar. Other methods of treatment usually require invasive surgery and multiple rounds of treatment with a lower success rate.
Reviews:
“My horse developed a one inch sarcoid just above the coronet band. The University Equine hospital recommended laser surgery, possibly followed by injected chemo. They gave it a 50% chance that the surgery would work, and a price of $1500. Multiple additional small, bumpy, hairless lesions started forming – all within one month. I was going to write off my horse. A local vet suggested I give xxterra a try. After about 7-10 days treatment, the hair started coming back and the sarcoid started separating. It has been 15 days and I am very hopeful. Hair has re-covered the entire area, and just a few bumpy, possibly scabby, areas are left. I really cannot believe it myself. Had to share! Simply amazing after such a poor prognosis.”
“Applied to small sarcoid on gelding’s chin. After 4 daily applications, in about 10 days it was gone! Almost a miracle. Highly recommend.”
“I have used XXTerra for a few years on my horse’s sarcoids. It has always worked wonders and it is extremely easy to apply (Although because it is a paste it can be kind of messy!) You apply for 4 days and let sit for 7, peel the scab and apply for another 4 days. I always see results in the first treatment. I have never successfully gotten rid of a sarcoid completely, but this allows me to keep them under control and not irritate my mare! I suggest this to anyone who has a horse that has external scabby sarcoids. Even if they are malicious sarcoids it will still help reduce the size of the sarcoid!”
“For a year I treated my quarter horse’s back legs with every product available and these sarcoid growth-like bumps kept on getting bigger and bigger. One treatment of xxterra got rid of them and once they scabbed over and fell off, fresh hair and smooth skin was underneath.”
